Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
184cm/6 foot. He's pretty wiry, with definition, and has wide shoulders.
2. How old is he?
He thinks he's about 28 years old (he's only got memories of the last couple of years). It's very possible he's a lot older.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Perfect in public. Back straight, no slouching; around his comrades/at home, it's more relaxed - he puts his hands in his pockets, he slouches in chairs.
In a fight, it's between casual and aggressive. Whichever one M-21 thinks is more necessary to piss off his opponent.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Very fit, considering he spends a lot of time either fighting or preparing just in case there is going to be a fight soon. He spends a lot of time roofhopping. He has dropped down an elevator shaft, fallen 28 storeys and literally hit the ground running, dashing away to start fighting. And that was before his blood settled and he got stronger.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Contained. He doesn't make wasteful movements; he isn't stiff, but he just doesn't reach out either.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Considering how the most of the female school body seem to be in love with him? He's pretty attractive, but he doesn't see that, not understanding why people act like that around him or go to him for advice.
He doesn't spend that much time in front of the mirror, just one check that he hasn't missed anything, and that's it.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
A bit on the pale side, clear except for a scar that goes over the right side of his lip.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Dark grey and straight. Sometimes it's a bit wavy. It just brushes past his jawline most of the time. Usually, it's swept to the right and tends to cover his eye.
9. What color are his eyes?
The same colour as his hair.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
He has a black tattoo on his left wrist - a '21' with a thick, incomplete diamond around it. It's upright to the person opposite, upside down to him. He keeps it hidden with long-sleeved tops.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
His wrists and shoulders, since he attacks with his claws. Tao does tend to give him a headache sometimes.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He doesn't have a set wardrobe. He wears a black suit to work, and can be seen just with the shirt on at home, untucked. Other times, he's in a horizontal stripy long-sleeved top, among other things. He doesn't have any preferences.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
The suits are made to fit and the other casual clothes fit him well too. He's comfortable in them.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
*points to question 12*
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Quite low, a little rough.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He doesn't talk that much to people he doesn't know well, letting others talk for him. When he does talk, he doesn't ramble much but he does sometimes hesitate, depending on who he's talking to, and what the topic's about. He doesn't hurry his words either.
He's more open with the people in his household; it's pretty noticeable. With strangers, he tends towards blunt.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He's been living in Korea for a while now, but he's been around the world so he's got a bit of a mix there. Does tend to use 'ah' in relaxed situations.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Korean, fluent. Fluent in English as well (if a little rusty), and knows the basics of a handful of other languages, enough to get around. He also speaks 'canine' – he can't understand dogs, but dogs can understand him perfectly.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
A pretty good impromptu speaker! If he's backed into a wall and needs to talk his way out, then he can do it with ease. If it's an emotionally charged situation, then he'll be able to say it.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Eloquent. If he feels like there's something that needs to be said, then he'll tell it to your face.
…Don't threaten the people under his care. Then he's going to be snapping at you, confrontational, and even blunter than usual.
He does swear sometimes, but when he does, it's more at the situation rather than at a person.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Very street-smart. He can work things to his advantage just through his words and observational skills a lot of the time. He's also in some ways book-smart, able to hack into computers to change details without leaving a trace. He doesn't spend that much time reading though.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Think on his feet most of the time. Give him enough time though, and he'll be deliberating what to do as well.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Very practical, about how things will play out depending on what happens. He will test reactions, see what happens and then judge what to do based on that.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Unknown. He's gotten some education at the Union, so they can make reports, know what to look for, but not much past the basics.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Fighting. He's well-practiced, doing it for years.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Very much an introvert.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
For the most part, he's even-tempered. Most things just roll off his back and if something comes up, he just deals with it, whatever it is. If he thinks you're unduly whining though, he will take you to task.
Once it becomes apparent that M-21's in a weaker position to an opponent though, he Won't Stop Snarking. Even if he knows for absolute definite his opponent has the power to kill him easily without any effort and has left him alive, he will continue to needle them, partially as a way to not appear weak, and to keep testing for weaknesses and reactions.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
With wariness and suspicion. He'll try to covertly get as much information as he can before doing anything or pretending he doesn't know a thing and walking away to get reinforcements/inform the others.
If it's got something to do with the school, he'll try to do what he thinks is the best for the situation.
If it's got something to do with Tao, he rolls with it, no matter what Tao says. (See: referring to each other as numbers as cover, wearing masks to apparently hide their identity)
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
React.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Protect. No, seriously. Give him something to protect and he will plant himself in harm's way to make sure they aren't hurt, even if he knows he's going to get his ass kicked. Even if he knows he'd be killed for it. He will give the fight his all to protect them.
What he decides on depends on whether he's protecting something or not. If it's a situation that he can walk away from, if it's only him that's being involved and other people aren't going to be put in danger, he'll do just that. He's had someone insulting him to his face and he's just kept walking. (This is also tied with wanting to keep below the radar as possible, so fighting would draw unwanted attention.)
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
A dry, deadpan kind that doesn't get out that often. He goes along with Tao's jokes/suggestions. On the other hand, he is excellent at trolling, if he has to (it's literally been employed as a weapon). He can tease, but that's reserved for his family, and specific people at that.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
No.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Waking up in a Union tank – This is his first memory, discovering that he's an experiment. Around him, there are 99 other experiments; they weren't able to speak to each other for a long time, but they could see each other, could see what was happening to them. They learned their lives didn't mean much, seeing their comrades dying one way or another because of the experiments. So they bonded over their shared experiences, even if a word wasn't ever spoken between them.
Aiming towards finding out his name, and the names of his comrades – Once there were only eight of the M-series still alive, they were allowed to walk around and finally interact with each other, they found out that all of their pasts had been erased. As more and more of them continued to die, they made a promise to each other, that they would continue to live, to do whatever they could just so that they could live for one more day. Afterwards, when it was just only M-21 and M-24, M-24 made the suggestion that they should find out about their pasts, their names, and the names of their comrades.
His blood being unleashed – In the fight against an Infected (a 'vampire' that was created by a modified human drinking his blood), Rai unleashed the hidden power residing within M-21, within his heart. M-21 discovered one thing that his Union records didn't tell him: he has a werewolf's heart, and that was part of the reason why his body no longer needed the pills that were supposed to stop his body from breaking down. With this revelation, M-21 found out that he was not as weak and useless as he had constantly been told for years on end.
M-24 dying – When M-24 died, there was no-one left for M-21. All his other comrades had died years before, and there was no-one else tying him to the Union (M-21's body had stabilised so he no longer needed the pills the Union provided him with; M-24's body still needed those pills).
Getting a job at the school – Rai and Frankenstein took him in after M-24 died, an act that he hadn't expected, especially not one that didn't have any strings attached. Frankenstein gave him a job as a security guard at the school he had founded, and it's a job he values. It's something he does that is so completely different from what he had to at the Union, protecting the children instead of killing people or doing whatever was needed to get information.
M-21 choosing the kids over the chance of finding out his name – At one point, some of the kids from the school were kidnapped by the people M-21 was working with/manipulating to get more information about himself. Things came to a head when he had to decide on whether to stand back and watch the kids be hurt in front of him, but get the information he needed about his himself, or step in, blow his cover story, and lose his chance of finding out about himself. He chose the kids' well-being over his own life-goal.
Tao and Takeo being adopted into the household – When the rest of the DA-5 had been taken out, Tao and Takeo were just about to leave to go into hiding themselves - M-21 asked Frankenstein if he could allow them to stay at the house. This was the first time he had been able to ask Frankenstein for something, showing that he had developed some self-esteem to actually ask something of someone instead of just burying it inside him.
14. What does he fear?
Living the life of an experiment again, being forced to do things against his will.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
Just to live a quiet life, where he doesn't have to be worried about being found by the Union. He still longs to find out his name and his background, but it doesn't drive him as much as it used to.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He doesn't hide anything from the people he's close to.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
He doesn't remember them.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
He doesn't know if he has siblings.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He doesn't know if he has any.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Frankenstein and Rai – They are, essentially, his parental figures. They took him in when he hadn't expected them to, when he hadn't asked them to, with no thought of asking anything of him in return. They've looked after his well-being, mental and physical, giving him comfort in their own ways. Frankenstein's even tasked him with doing the dishes. There's been one chapter where Frankenstein talks with Tao and Takeo, making sure they don't think he's playing favourite with M-21 because he was the first one adopted into the family. There's also another chapter where Frankenstein says, 'I'm here to rescue my children, of course' when every single person in the household is there.
Regis – His bratty little brother who he bickers with whenever they can. They snark at each other constantly, whether it's about apparently avoiding doing their chores, or being late. It's how they show they care for each other. If they aren't needling each other one way or another, something's wrong.
Seira – His distant little sister that he doesn't always know how to act around, but she's still family.
Tao and Takeo – They aren't just family, they're his comrades. It's a weighty word when it comes from M-21. To him, comrades are the people who have shared his life's experiences one way or another, who know what it's like to live the life of an experiment, to have their body changed against their will. Comrades are also the people he fights alongside with, who he trusts at his back completely and utterly. They have his complete loyalty and he will do anything for them, no matter what. (Then again, this can also be said of those he considers family)
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
M-24. They met at the Union, when they were in the tanks. They'd been travelling the world, doing any mission they could that kept them away from actually interacting with anyone from the Union for three years, and before that, they had been experimented on for years.
6. Does he have other close friends?
No.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
It takes a lot to get M-21 to trust you. Really, it takes a while for M-21 just to talk to you that isn't the basic pleasantries (If you're a kid on the other hand, that's different).
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Well, his
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He doesn't remember, but he's currently single.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
He doesn't remember.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
He isn't looking for one.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
No.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Crombell. He's the scientist who modified M-21's body, and part of the reason why M-21 is trying to keep himself hidden so hard. If Crombell were to recapture him, Crombell would want to know every single change that his body has gone through since his last check-up and it wouldn't be…pleasant. That, and everyone he knows could be put in danger in the fight to bring him back to the Union.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Asexual.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
He isn't interested in it. It has zero importance to him.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Not canon, but taurus and dog.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
He's not religious.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
In a fight, not really. If there's something he can do to get an advantage, he'll do it.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
So long as you aren't hurting someone or putting people he knows in danger, he doesn't really care.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He doesn't really have any prejudices.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Comfortable. His home and food are provided for him; he has a job and doesn't pay for much.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Currently a security guard at the high school Frankenstein founded. He used to be a bottom rung agent (if that), a failed experiment who was considered useless by the scientist who had modified his body, always constantly under the threat of being disposed of since there was no more use for them.
The change has affected him a lot - he's valued for the work he does, he really does care for the kids he's looking after – it's not 'just a job'. Even off the clock, he'll be trying to help the kids (even if it's relationship problems and he has no experience of that. XD;) and if the kids get in trouble out of school? If he's there, he'll be coming to deal with the matter.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
TARDIS. :| Frankenstein's house looks like it's two storeys tall from the outside, but there are three floors to it inside – as well as nine floors of labs underneath. There's also a pool stashed in there somewhere. The rooms in general look far too big to how the outside is.
It is very much home to him, where the rest of his family reside with him.
It's…impeccable (unless the kids have visited again, but that mess doesn't last for long).
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Clothes – They have a very large tendency of getting shredded in every fight he's in one way or another.
Mobiles - When you're fighting people who can punch through metal, tiny pieces of plastic just aren't going to last.
Repairing buildings - Buildings are another thing that gets completely wrecked during their fights.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Special security guard at Ye Ran High School. Pretty good at it, and he does enjoy it, for all the stuff that keeps happening that throw him for a loop.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
He spends his free time practicing his transformation. He also spends time taste-testing Frankenstein's latest food creations.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He does have a preference for ramen (or he had a weird craving for it after being beaten up), but he's not picky in general.
He sometimes has a tendency to forget to eat when he's practicing his transformation, but the other people in the household also know this so they start looking for him if they haven't seen him for a while to make sure he's eaten something.
